We arrived at the more developed launch about 8:00 am and there were already several rigs parked and several people fishing from the shore. The nice thing about St Clair is that it has so many arms - we can always find some corner away from wind/wake/boats/noise. And there are so many kinds of fish, we can always find something that will bite. We headed north from the ramp and found the bite slow at first. We caught a couple of smaller rainbows about 11 inches and one of the steelhead that were stocked over a year ago. We worked our way to the far north arm where we found more and bigger steelhead and some nice logs to try for bass and panfish. We found mostly dink bass and 2 bluegill at 8 inches. But I know the lunkers are there. After one cast next to a log, my rod dipped to the water and the drag screamed. I held on and the fish bolted under the log and then my line went slack. I reeled in and found everything gone. The fish broke it all off. Time to respool with new - maybe more than 6 lb? We went home with our limits of rainbows/steelhead (2 at 14.5 inches), 3 bass at 10 inches, and 2 bluegill at 8 inches. A fun day with fish for the freezer. No pics today. Tight lines.

I was worried that the Steelhead would have died in the lake. Glad to hear that they are doing well.

The steelhead smolts were put in many lakes, but St Clair is the only one where we have continued to catch them. They are not fat. They are long and lean (but not skinny). Athletic fighters that like to go airborne, they are quite fun to catch. St Clair has a lot of deep holes where they can lurk.
