We headed down the pass from Dog Lake and hit Swofford Pond to see if we could get a few panfish. Arriving about 9 am, we had the boat in the water by 9:30. We tried a few spinners and spoons with no action from the trout, so switched to worms for the bluegill. Most of the pond is shallow and weedy, so we were into the sunfish immediately. Casting along the lily pad line on the east shore, we found a few largemouth bass and kept a 12" and 10" for the freezer. But we weren't targeting bass and it got too hot in the sun, so we moved to the shade under the trees along the east shore. This proved to be a good move, because the bluegill were there too. I guess they don't like to be in the sun either when it's 99 degrees out! We fished until about 4pm, mostly in the shade on the south end along the east and west shores. Eventually the sun and heat got to be too much and we headed back to the launch with a stringer full of 8" to 10" bluegills and the 2 bass. Perfect ending to a great weekend. Tight lines!
