My buddy and I made the trek up to Cavanaugh in search of Kokanee. We launched at about 6:30am. I trolled 10+ different set-ups of kokanee gear at multiple depths on two different rods. My buddy trolled fly gear in the top 10ft. of water. The flies had more consistent action. A maroon colored 'hale bop' leech was the winner. We both c&r'd 8 or more 12-14" cuts. All had lots of fight and didn't look as skinny as in years past which was nice to see. Not a single koke though, strange because a month ago we were pulling limits. Top water temp was 65 degrees average. We left the lake at 1:30pm. Talked to another boat who had 2 bites all day and none to the boat.
Side note: when we arrived at the lake there were 6 empty beer cans and two red solo cups floating 100 yards from the launch. We assumed some drunk idiot from the night before had floored it home and they blew out of the boat. I hope it was a drunken accident and not intentional littering. We netted up as many as we could before a water skier blew past us and caused the remaining ones to sink.
