This report is more of a public service one rather than a fishing report.

Yes, the word is out on the large rainbow in Sprague Lake. My wife and I arrived on a Monday at 0530 HRS to find 7 car loads of bank fishermen already in place or emptying out of vehicles to race for a spot. The wind was howling and with that amount of pressure, we knew any attempt at fishing would be an exercise in wind blown futility. Thus, we left without a cast. Prior, Sprague Lake trips have been far more successful, but the angling pressure and the persistent wind will need to diminish before another Sprague Lake outing.

I thought Sprague was a big enough lake to accommodate more than 7 carloads of anglers. Isn't there more than one location to fish from?

When I mentioned carloads; I meant CARLOADS...Multiple folks from each one. Yes, the WDFW area is large with nice bank fishing access, but the realistically available spots do have a limit and with a Sprague Lake wind, tangled lines on casts or big fish are a usual result. The resorts are an option, but Sprague Lake Resort now charges $6.00 an angler and the dock at Four Seasons, although nice, puts you in a close encounters situation with your fellow anglers. The rest of lake shore is private/no trespassing although I have seen a few folks attempting to bank fish at the "pay at the can" boat launch.
