I took two friends out fishing who had not been fishing in over 20 years. We were on the water shortly after 7 and the water was as smooth as glass with fog shrouding the lake and blocking the sun. We trolled running various offerings at various depths with no interest, not even a bump. We switched things up a few times as the sun made an appearance but weren't able to catch anything by the time one of my friends had to leave. Two hours on the water without a bite.

After we dropped him off at the dock, we trolled some more with no interest so we anchored in an area that has been productive in the past and ran 1/4oz egg weights with 4 ft of leader with two power eggs and half a worm. That didn't work either, so I went back to what worked two weeks ago with my son. We kept that setup but pulled anchor and trolled very slowly. About 15 minutes later I had the first fish in the boat, an 11 incher. Another 10 minutes in the same area and my friend caught his first fish of the day and of this century. We caught them with 50 feet of line out and continued to get a lot of bites but not hookups. I put on a fresh worm and let out 80 feet and hooked up right away. That seemed to be the ticket.

Most of the fish were holding right around 18-22ft so putting out 80-90 feet of line put us right in that range. The fish we caught at that depth were larger and fatter as well. We ended the day with 4 fish for me and 2 for him with each of us losing 2 fish close to the boat. All of this action came within a two hour period from 11am to 1pm. There are still a lot of fish in the lake and good quality fish. Still waiting to catch one of the 5+ pounders.
