Took my daughters out for a little mid week bass fishing on Long. We launched at about 1400 and it was Africa hot already. The fishing was pretty slow; there are 1 inch fry everywhere and it can be very hard to compete with Mother Nature. We managed a dozen or so smallies with the biggest one right at 3 lbs. I caught that one on a Carolina rig and a senko, I was working the river channel edge to see if anything a little bigger that the dinks we were catching was in deeper water. Overall senko's were the ticket but I did miss a nice largemouth on a buzz bait. I swear that fish hit my buzz bait before it hit the water and I could never catch up to him to get a good hook set. If anyone is looking to catch some crappies just fish around some of the docks, my daughter caught one on a 3 inch senko and we saw quite a few others under various docks, eating all of those 1 inch fry I suppose. Great summer day made better by having my daughter aboard.
