Well its been killing me as it's been awhile since I have been able to fish due to the height of my busy season with work, especially with the opportunities abound right now. A customer had been bugging me to take him out but both of us have not been able to pull it off until this morning!

I saw a window of opportunity open up this morning so called him yesterday to meet me at the Atlantic City boat launch at 5:30 am to try for some sea run cutthroats. He said he has never caught or tasted any fish freshly caught by anyone he knew since moving here so was hoping today he would get his chance!

Now I was well aware of what today was going to turn into with Seafair in full swing and the Blue Angels scheduled for another practice run over the blue skies of Lake WA; so the plan was to get in as much fishing as possible by 10:30 and then head in before the mayhem began!

We were on the water by 5:45 and put our lines down as soon as we passed the speed buoys and got into 100 feet of water- had one rod set up with a watermelon colored brad's cut plug stuffed with herring lathered in garlic/tuna scent and another pink polka dot cut plug that I tipped with pink gulp maggots and shrimp scent. We motored around until we were heading north by the west side of Mercer island with one rod set at 55' and the other at 65' but noticed some marks around 45' so brought one rod up to 35'. No sooner did we do that when we got a take down that popped it off the clip and it was fish on!! I handed the rod to Pat and he struggled a bit with reeling it in and soon the fish was able to escape before bringing it to the net. It's ok as we set that one back down refreshed with maggots and shrimp scent.

We did a little fishing 101 as we waited for another take down and it paid off as no sooner did we pass around the corner buoy when that same rod goes off again! This time Pat works it beautifully in and turns out to be a nice 13.5" kokanee!! That explains the 1st lost fish! So we set both rods now at 35' as that seems to be the magic depth today for some reason; almost immediately the same rod goes off once more!! All 3 have pulled it off the clip and this one has some more size to it as it's pulling line off the reel! Pat works it nicely once more to the boat and it's a nice cutty! Same story 15 minutes later but this one a bit smaller but he wanted to keep it to make a meal of the 3 fish since we were getting close now the 10 am time so put it in the cooler. Amazingly all 4 fish hooked on the same set up tipped with pink gulp maggots and shrimp scent!

Boats were streaming towards the log boom by this time so we decided to call it a day and boy am I glad we did as the launch was getting very busy! I managed to slip in ahead of someone who had moved his boat forward along leaving me a small spot to sneak the boat in. Quickly ran and got my truck and was off the water in less then 10 minutes!! Phew!! Anyway was happy I was able to get him his first fish in the state of WA and he texted me tonight saying how good they tasted!

Nice! I was out there Friday morning also. Hit he water about 830am. Think I saw you motoring around the S. end of Mercer heading towards the West channel when I got there. Caught a couple of rainbows and 2 cutts myself. My magic depth was 40 to 45 ft. had one take down that snapped me off almost immediately. It was a zoo out there after about 11am on the S end of Mercer, it looked like the Spanish Armada setting out to sea for battle there were so many boats coming at me full bore to get to the log boom.

Thanks! Yea that was what we were thinking it was going to get like! Good job on the fish! Probably saw you too as we saw a few fisher boats out there!
