On Saturday, the 15th of July, My parents and I decided to go hiking to show the beautiful mountain scenery to my uncle and his fiancé who were visiting from Dallas, Texas. Unfortunately, It was cloudy that day on the west side of the mountains, and looked like it could rain, so we made the trek over Stevens Pass to Leavenworth, and took the road that runs along the Icicle River to look for a good lake to hike to. We found Eight Mile Lake, and started hiking up. After an easy 3 mile hike, we came upon Little Eight Mile Lake, where I pulled out my ultra light, and started casting a small silver and blue Kastmaster. Practically every cast produced a strike, and in the 30 minutes that I was there, I caught and released 12 fat little brookies and 1 rainbow, ranging from 4 to about 13 inches. The key was to fish the kastmaster very slowly, but still give it the wide-wobble action. I also tried Rooster Tails and Mepps spinners to experiment, but they only produced a few strikes and were not nearly as effective as the Kastmaster. I fished near the inlet creek that flows down from Big Eight-Mile lake, which is also supposed to be good fishing, but the fishing was so good at Little Eight Mile that I saw no point in hiking further up, since I believe in the phrase "Don't fix something if it ain't broken".
