Opening Day Coho and I was back from four days of fishing kings at the mouth of the Klickitat. Always up for a new adventure!

I fished with Gringo Pescador, Robbie, and Brianna. We got to the Magnuson launch at 5:15am as I was unsure just how bad the lines would be. Turned out, not too bad, second in line. Heck, we even hung out and let others go ahead of us.

Ran across to Hunts Points and made some runs due north, then over by the bridge and back again. We ran two rods on riggers, one stacked, and one long lining. The DR rods had flashers and the other two we ran plugs. We didn't see concentrated schools anywhere we trolled. Did manage one cutthroat on a plug at 60 feet deep. Around 9:30am had a vicious hit on the longlining rod, on a magnum plug. BTW, I was using a new diver from Angler Innovations, called the "Longliner. This device allows you to place the weight at variable distances from your lure, and when a fish strikes the device is triggered and there is no tension from the weight to be felt. I was running it at 120 feet of line, with 5 oz, so the gear was probably around 50-60 feet deep. The Longliner worked great and I played a nice 5 pound coho to the boat. The fish was caught in the Moss Bay area. Boat trolling speed was 2.3-2.5mph.

After this fish we trolled around until 10:30 and then went back to the boat launch to pick up Dan and John from King 5 News. They were doing a story on Lake Washington Coho and we had them on board filming and doing a live facebook feed. Lot's of fun and a cool way to share our day with people. If you get a chance check out the King 5 web page and Facebook page to watch the feed and the evening story.

We trolled with King 5 until 1pm and although we had a triple (one coho and likely two trout) they were all light biters and we lost them. Not a red hot day, and the fish are scattered about. We didn't mark any big schools of fish. I wouldn't give up on the fishery, I think there will be more fish after the tribes are done getting their 50%.

Good luck out there!

I am going to have to get a couple of those LongLiners! I will be taking my new Saturn inflatable boat out there before too long.

that would be the perfect tool for an inflatable. I see a lot of so-so fishing gear so when something really works so well it gets me excited.

Thanks. Big thanks to Gringo Pescador, Brianna, and Robbie. They kept things real out there. Pretty fun and not at all what I was expecting. I'll be the first to admit I was feeling the pressure to get a coho in the boat!

I agree don't give up. They have been netting a lot and are going in for 5 days starting Sunday 8:00 am. As long as they don't pull as purse seine fishery like the did a few years back and hit the lake. Fish will begin building up in the. WDFW needs to do a better job of negotiating on our behalf and limit nets to a reasonable amount of days weekly so some fish can pass by. Lets see Nets get 5 days Sportsman get 2. But Kuddos to the Muckleshoots at least they got us a season. Ironic isn't it?. Hmmm
