I decided to fish this am as front was coming from South by 3pm. So drove up north to Clear Lake after checking weather report in Mount Vernon. Well, it wasn't calm like it said it would be at Clear Lake and water level had rose so much in last few weeks that you couldn't see the channel to the right of the launch or any lily pads...water must of rose couple feet. So bailed on Clear Lake and decided to stop at Sunday Lake on my way back.

I used to fish Sunday lake a bunch in the late 80's early 90's and was a good place to catch some decent bass in the 12-19" range. But hadn't been then in quite and while and last few times there biggest was 10.5".

Got to lake at 10:45am had to hoof it as water level was low by long boardwalk...so took about 4 trips to get the boat and gear all the way to the dock. Another reason why I quit fishing here. That and home owners sprayed it for milfoil in 90's and hasn't been the same since.

It was pretty calm so tried in front of dock with top water perch #7 minnow and buzzbait. No bites inside the pads...so headed to outside right of launch where I have caught fish last time I was there...sure enough about 4th cast a roll, a swirl and down goes my minnow fish on! After brief fight 11" bass is in the boat and we are on the board no skunk today. Take photo and let him go. Saw some fish swimming to my right out deep and some v's in the water...no wind so had to be a fish...cast out there a few times no luck. Try further up the pads and another roll, missed it...stayed in area for a bit and cast around...try same area as bite a few minutes later and this time he took the minnow...2nd fish a 10". Hitting close to edge of rotten lily pads. Went around the corner of pads trying buzzbait and minnow got another small bass on minnow 8"...then threw the buzzbait into edge of pads had it moving across the top and bam big splash...some size on this one...good fight and under the boat and lipped...take selfie and tape measure nice 13" Bass. Got a couple more small one's including one that jumped at my minnow as I was swimming it back and taking it out of the water...yep he landed in my lap. See photo I call him jumbo!

Make a quick loop around the lake didn't get any bites on North or East side of the lake finally got two more bass on South/West side and made it back to where I started at 2:30pm...well tried one of those dumb casts to middle of lake away from lily pads...twitch the minnow once...then start swimming sure enough fish on! Nice 9" to end the day. It was where I had seen the fish swirling earlier in the day. Started to sprinkle so decided to head for home.

Got three of fish swimming the minnow back to the boat after trying top water twitch and couple of the top water hits the lure just got pulled under so you didn't hear a splash more of an inhale of the lure...so you have to keep your eye on it. Only got the one on the buzzbait and was the only hit on it.

Listened to the Seahawks game the whole time...no you don't have to be quiet to catch fish.

Got 9 Bass 13", 11", 10", 9"-5, and one Jumbo. Not a bad day since haven't fished there all year.

All fish caught and released and some photographed.

Good luck out there.

James

Friday I was catching a few Largies in pads that looked like that. Weightless 5" brown Senko. Up to 2 pounds even.

Nice report James. I always enjoy your photos too. My fishing days are probably over but I do like to read bass reports - They bring back so many memories. I fished Sunday a few times and caught a few bass. My personal lake record is 15 3/4 inches and 2 pounds even. That fish hit a 1/4 ounce black jig with a blue-black Gator-tail worm trailer on March 16, 1986 while I was fishing in a canoe. My bass records show 31 different lakes in Snohomish County.

Bob my best at Sunday lake is two 19" by 7" wide bass didn't have a digital scale so 4lbs was what my old scale said. Got first one in October 1987 on white spinnerbait. 2nd one got in May 2000 on frog I bought when I was 12. Was only fish that lure ever caught. Still have it. He hit the lure and went straight down. I was in the lily pads casting to shore just past them. I have one hand on the pole and one on my paddle and slowly rowed over and thought he gotten off. Got to the pads saw a bunch of green weeds then a huge head. It was a big one! Got him about 2pm as we were fishing Ketchum Lake earlier in the day for trout. He must of been spawning it was early May.

Sounds like you are keeping some pretty accurate records - And for a long time - 1987. And, 4 pounds sounds close to 4 pounds. I almost always weighed my fish and found out that a nice chunky 12 incher would go about a pound - and a 15 incher would be about 2 pounds and a 17 incher would be close to 3 pounds. Above that they varied quite a bit.

Yes, they vary quit a bit in girth but I usually have a tape measure with me in my tackle box so don't go by lbs but by inches. I don't think I caught as many fish as last year but did get more over 12" this year then last. So went for quality over quantity this year and tried some new lakes.

Amx where did you fish last Friday? I would be happy with 13-15" all day long still trying to find that school of them.
