My son and I hit Fourth of July Lake on Black Friday. About 30 vehicles in the parking lot (much better than the mall). The weather wasn't bad for November - a bit windy and got sprinkled on a couple of times. Hiked in about half way down on the East side. I started with a worm and power bait about 18" off the bottom and my son started with a gold/trout pattern Kastmaster. He got a couple of bites that didn't stick and then a big take down that broke his line. He put on a silver Kastmaster and landed a nice rainbow a few minutes later. I switched over to throwing lures as I still had zero bites. He landed a big hen over 20 inches, and probably pushing 4 lbs. Some other folks were catching fish here and there, and some were not. A couple of guys on the other side were doing well with flies. The fishing was slower than usual for the opener. The guy next to us landed a very nice bow on a Roster Tail. Even though I didn't catch any fish, I rate this day a 4 - good to get out and spend some time with my son.

Just a note to set the report straight - the large fish was about 18.5 inches and over 3.5 lbs. Also the water level was quite low. Sorry, pix didn't load.
