We have been waiting for ice reports, there hasn't been many for our area. But I'm here to tell you there is good ice at fourth of July. That's about all I can tell you though.
We are not very familiar to that particular lake, nor its techniques.
We walked towards the west end of the lake looking for holes that had any signs of action around them . We brought our drill but just used other near by holes. My daughter did get 1 up to the hole and half way out, but the lined snapped and back in the trout went. Appeared to be a good size one. Ice was about 6" thick and the lake was snow covered. We were the only ones there on Christmas day , so I can't even give any hear say.
So with that being said there is good ice. I just need how to fish this particular lake.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing! It has been a while since I fished there, but we always used a bouncing betty (rubber slip sinker, or a lead slip sinker -3/4 oz. above the swivel so it moves freely) Long trout leader 18" in. or so size 10 salmon egg hook, and 2 power eggs to get it off the bottom (white and pink always seemed to work). Leave some slack in the line so the can't feel any resistance. I hope that helps. Fish in the middle where the lake narrows. Good luck.

Yes, the "First Narrows" (seen when hiking from the parking area) is a good spot to ice fish. The eastern and western shorelines there are only about 75 yards apart, and the cliffs seem to channel the fish a bit. If you want to use Artificial Lures (for Catch-and-Release fishing), try a 1/4-oz. silver Kastmaster slab-jig lure. Drop it to the bottom, crank your reel handle about 1 turn, then quickly twitch your rod tip upwards about 2 feet. As soon as you jerk the rod upwards, immediately drop it back down to its starting position so that the Kastmaster "flutters" like a leaf. Keep twitching your rod up and down every 3 seconds or so; the Rainbow Trout catch the lure on the drop. When you feel some weight on the next lift, set the hook and crank the reel handle! Don't give the fish any slack lest it shake off the lure from its lip.

I've only been out that way once and we did good for the few hours we were out there. Having a flasher really helped. We set up a dropshot with powerbait eggs 3/4 of the way down and had pretty consistent action. This was 2 years ago. I live in airway, so if you're looking for an ice buddy. Shoot me a message. I like to stay semi local but make a few trips every now and again

Thanks for the replies deluders and cumminsbassguy, any help helps on a new pond. We catch and release most trout. Keep some at times for smokers. Though I get my fill on them from Roosevelt. Great info guys , hope to be out in two weeks. Happy New Year...
