After getting skunked 3 days this week, I picked up 2 normal sized Cutts. Actually a fairly good bite from 9am to 11:45am but I could not nail em. The earlier bites in the day were some of the most aggressive strikes that I have seen at Boren over the winter. Later on, they were more the normal strike of one quick hit and done, or maybe a tiny follow up.
Monday, even though I got skunked, I lost one (the best fight to date up these this winter) but never saw it and had 4 other strikes in about 20 minutes, so quite hectic for a lake like this in the winter.
Thursday, 1 strike and the same for Saturday.. I also fished Green Lake in the morn and missed my only strike though I did see 2 really nice looking Bow's caught, about 16"-17" and fat too!
Both fish today were caught with Marsh/Worm combo with a 40" leader. I did have more strikes with a 30" leader though.
I was 2 of 6 so I looking for suggestions to tighten up that window, as I seem to be below 50% and would like to be more about 75% or higher. Going to try Gamakatsu bait hooks instead of Eagle Claw Lazer Sharps. Also, might go back to Braid again but even lighter. 15 lbs last time and was thinking 10 this time. Using 4lb mono right now. Ultragreen and Stren. My poles might me the issue to. Both St. Croix Advid UL's and one has a Modrate action.
In all. It was a very good day as I was able to release both fish as the hook came out while netting them, thanks to barbless.
