On a gamble, I decided to check the open water fishing possibilities at Sprague Lake. Sad to say, for the bank fisherman (like me)...ZERO. The East portion of the lake has open water, but the only possibility is in a small boat at the primitive "Pay At The Can"/Sprague Lake Recreational Association launch just past the side road to Sprague Lake Resort. Many confuse this private area with the much larger and better developed WDFW Public Access much further down the road.
I have never in over 10 years of fishing this lake seen this amount of water. Who knows when Sprague Lake Resort will be able to open (?); her resort at the lakeside is largely underwater!
The Westend of the lake is still covered with ice. At the WDFW Access, no possibility of launching a boat due to ice and no chance at real bank fishing as the bank trails against the rock faces on either side of the boat ramp are just starting to come out of the ice, and appear to be under 3' - 6' of water. Again the amount of water is UNREAL and I suspect will only get more UNREAL as the lake continues to thaw.
