I took advantage of the predicted mild winds to go after blackmouth today. I got to Everett bright and early and was met by a guard with a flashlight who told me the launch was closed through Sunday for dredging! I then drove to Mukilteo to see if the docks were out. They are! Good luck to anyone who wants to go out this weekend!

I did launch at Mukilteo. Thanks to the guy who held my boat while I parked!

I tried out my new jigging pole with Proline out at Possession near the buoy and caught a couple of shakers on a Pt Wilson Dart in the green/yellow/white color, as well as a couple of flounders. I also trolled out there but didn't get anything. The wind came up a bit out of the West and I worried about getting my boat out, so I headed North. Behind Whidbey, it was still nice and flat.

I then trolled Columbia Beach, from about a mile and a half South of the ferry dock up to the docks. I was using a green hot spot flasher with my favorite white/green stripe 4 inch Coyote. I saw a good bit of bait in the area, and about 9:30 had a good hit. I grabbed the pole and the fight was on. The fish fought well enough that I had to take the motor out of gear to gain line back. I almost knocked the fish off with my first netting attempt, but managed to get it on the second try. It was a 9 pound hen blackmouth. Nice and chubby!

I trolled a bit for silvers off Mukilteo while I cleaned my fish, but didn't do anything. There had been a gillnetter out in the middle earlier in the morning, but I think it might be too late for silvers out there...

I had quite a tussle getting the boat back on the trailer by myself with the current sweeping out past Mukilteo, but by putting the trailer on the North edge of the concrete and putting a really long stern line on the upcurrent side, I was able to get the boat back on straight.

Nice morning on the water!
