After a rocky run from Shilshole, my friend Brad and I hit the Edmonds area and started fishing at 7:30am. We fished whole herring and a dodger at 45 and 55 feet on the riggers. The conditions were rough - lots of bouncing going north, smoother going south. By 10am we had our limits, as well as missing 3 bites. The action was steady, no particular time they bit better. We also caught the fish in either direction. High tide was around 6am today. We trolled fast - about 2 1/2 to 3 mph. The fish were very aggressive, taking the herring completely. No light taps today! One nice hooknose of about 10 pounds, three nice hens. While cleaning the fish I found that the charter boat deckhands are right. The best bait seems to be the cut off head of a cut plug herring. One fish had three in it's stomach. Guess it must have been just laying under someone's boat!
