We left the house at about 3:30 pretty clear and warm. When we reached the launch at about 4:30 there were already bunches of boats in the water. but not nearly as many as the weeks before. We started off by drifting herring had no luck so stuck 2 poles with 6oz and 3oz weights rigged with herring. Got first fish on the 3oz at about 6:00 fought hard had to catch up to him with the boat because of all the traffic landed him weighed in at 22 lbs. At about 6:30 got a hit at about 30ft with the 60z on missed him didn't have thumb on the spool and missed him. About 20 min later set downrigger at about 65 feet and got a hit my dad landed him a 17 pounder not to bad. I see a lot of people using flashers and spoons they work well but early we find herring to work much better. Used flashers and had no luck.
