Got to the lake at 10:00 am. Talked to a guy just coming in and he was fishing for kokanee. He said that he went deep over by the n.e. corner of the lake. No kokes, just rainbows. Darren and I started out in the middle at 3 colors. He likes to troll flies, so he had a red carey with a 0000 silver dodger. I went with a chartreuse apex, and a gang troll. We went at various depths, but only puny rainbows. Darren switched to a green wedding ring spinner and kept on his dodger. Boy was that the ticket! His first koke was about 10"(big for his standards!) and they just kept getting bigger. My brother said he only had one green wedding ring (so he said) and he just kept knocking them. I tried everything I had but just puny rainbows. After a couple hours they finally switched to a modified red wedding ring spinner I made. I have to tell you all I didn't think we were going to catch anything with all the jet ski/water-ski traffic. It got so bad I thought we were going to be seasick with all the wakes coming and going! This is so contrary to the rule that kokes go deep/don't bite when there's a lot of commotion top. Anyway, we didn't have to go too deep, only in the 2-4 color range (using leaded line) There is a big brick house out on the point on the n.e. corner of the lake, and that's where we were nailing them. Out about 1000 yards from the house. The 0000 dodgers were the ticket with the wedding rings, about 14 - 16" of leader from dodger to spinner. I retie my spinners using 2 #2 gamakatsu octopus hooks in red. There is approximately 1/4" distance between the bend of the top hook and the eye of the trailing hook. We were 100% at getting the kokes into the boat (and if you fish much for kokes, you know that's unheard of!) If your a kokanee nut like myself and my brother you owe it to yourself to get a book called Kokanee a complete fishing guide by Dave Biser . I got mine from amazon.com, but there out there elsewhere as well. One last thing. We tip our lures with white shoe peg corn soaked in herring oil.
