Well I finally made it to Hoodsport today. My partner and I arrived kind of late, around 9:30 a.m. but we stopped at the first hatchery and chatted with the DFW worker there. He said that the chum fishing was probably starting to die off but we would probably find a few fish around. He sent us to a place a short distance from the hatchery, in Purdee Creek. The creek was FULL of chums but...it's CLOSED WATERS in most places. What a disappointment! We did manage to find some fish that we could catch, and we each caught about 10. But the fishing is definitely on the decline. Later we went further up Hwy 101 very close to the Indian hatchery just off the road. There were several fisherman fishing but we only saw two fish caught in about half an hour. I'd say that if you are planning to come from a long distance away, don't waste your time. There's always next year. Sorry for the discouraging word, happy fishing!
