Just returned from a two week fishing trip to the upper end of Vancouver Island. The action was nothing like past years. We did manage to catch a few nice fish but the fishing was hard to say the least. Each day of fishing started at about 5:00 in the morning and ended at about 4:00 in the afternoon. We fished all the popular spots in the area and like most our catch rate was way down. According to a few guides in the area the fishing is the worst they have seen in 40 years. Reports from up north are no better. Those paying big bucks to go to places like Hakai Pass and Langara Island are coming home empty handed. I hope this trend will not repeat in the lower Sound this August. I am attaching a picture of my wife with a 38 pound king she caught just moments after we started fishing the first day. Sadly it was one of only a few fish we caught.
