Well we went out for some Halibut and blackmouth. The water was really ruff out in area 9 when we tried for halibut. It really wasnt very fun. The rods are super heavy, they wore me out in no time. So about noon we headed back to 8.2 for some after noon blackmouth, started right at the line of 8.2 and headed north till Columbia beach. Once it was about 2pm i got my second bite.(frist was a 18inch shaker). I was fighting it and the guys were pulling in the lines when we saw that the other flasher was wraped around my line. But lucky he was able remove it with no problems. Got it in and check to make sure it was legal to keep and then boated it(thank god it was ). The second fish came about 20 minutes later. It was just legal(23inchs). This was my first time limiting out on blackmouth. So i drove the boat and let my buddy use my lucky set up. I was using a 12inch Green/glow flasher and a white squid.
I had to put in alot of time this season to catch these blackmouth. I went out so many times to just get skunked. I hope this is a good sign for things to come for the up coming fishing season.

Hey Jerm,
Did you guys have to use a down rigger to catch these? I tried all weekend for halibut and had no luck at admiralty bay. I live in Marysville and am hoping to be out in 8.2 for ling this coming weekend but if that is doing so well (not that I have a clue as to where to try for ling), then maybe give a shot at blackmouth. I don't have a downrigger on my boat.

thanks in advance for any tips/suggestions.

Yo Pradeep, i was using a down rigger. I was fishing at 125ft, in 200ft of water. If you don't have rigger you might want to try fishing with 16oz ball wight on a 3way swivel with a two foot dropper to get down that deep. Its really hard with out a down rigger, but people use to catch fish with out a down rigger back in the day.
As for Ling Cod i am not to sure about 8.2 but i heard area 9 is good. Check out John's Sporting goods webs site. He has alot of info on fishing and he wrote a good book about fishing the puget sound. Heres a link to the web site. http://www.johnssportinggoods.com/2009%20Ling%20Cod.htm
