FINALLY! Hooked into my first salmon of the year. Had my son get all the gear out of the way then I handed it over to him. Felt like a 15-20lber. I turn my back and my son has my pole over the side of the boat, just gettin his butt kicked. I took it back and gave him the man-up speech and thought "damn this thing feels bigger". handed it back to my son and he was doing much better but still not moving it. A few minutes later a seal surfaced to the left of us. I thought.. we need to get this thing in quick. What I didn't see was the other seal that had our salmon. #%@^#$&#!!! Yes, the other surfaced with a mouth full of salmon and my line. We chased her down to get the line back and at one point she let half the salmon go to suck down a big chunk of it. I was reeling fast once again thinkin "sweet I'm gettin my gear back" But once again the 300lb seal hit the rest of the salmon, this time hooking herself. Good fight, I got most my line back but lost my quick release dogger and a new hoochie.
Fish checker logged 17 fish at the boat launch at 12:30. The biggest being 26lbs. Not sure what the boat house had. They are almost here. Get those rods ready!

hey you can legally shoot seals with paint ball guns, I heard of people saying this so i called fish and wildlife and they said NOAA was in charge of laws like that, so I called an actuall NOAA officer and he sent me the link on washington state laws that allow us fishermen to shoot these damn pest that take our salmon haha. if you want the laws ill sent the link to you, but next time you should take a paintball gun along with you, and keep your tips up :) sounds like your gonna have a great year fishing, keep up the good work:)
