Launched at Redondo at 4:00am with very little boat launch traffic. (Only three or four other boats at that time) Ran over to Dash point dock area to start out the early morning bite. Trolled between 100 and 130 feet deep all the way down to just past browns point before turning around. Saw the dock fishermen at dash point catch two keeper salmon with in 20min of each other. Warning they can cast out much further than you would ever think, almost had two point wilson darts in the boat on one pass. (I mean missed us by a foot max)
Lost a flasher and hoochie setup to the second one. (our bad for being to close)
No real luck there but marked a huge amount of bate on the depth finder all around browns point. Even saw them jumping out of the water like crazy. Picked up the down riggers and ran over to Point Defiance Around 9:00Am because we totaly stopped marking fish.
Ok so if you have ever fished at Point Defiance/ The Clay Banks you know all about battle fishing. Well it was on like Donkey Kong. I took a moment just to take it all in and took count of the boats close, way over fifty Maybe even seventy. Fished there untill about 11:30 and marked bait and fish all over the place, all depths and all the way down from the Rock Pile to the Point. Weather was Hot Hot Hot. Made sure to catch a good sun burn.
Saw one salmon caught right next to us by a guy mooching solo. (gave him a big cheer and thumbs up) The Dog Fish were all over, caught six between the two of us. one or two were quite big in size maybe 3 to 4 ft. Can't even count how many I saw caught by other boaters. Nice never the less to feel the tug of a big fish in the salt, shark or not. (all dogs released unharmed)
Lastly I would like to say thanks to The Old Hooker for taking me out in the Highlaker for a nother exciting trip to area 11. (The best spot in the hole Puget Sound)

i have counted close to 200 boats in that pt defiance area before. it's insane... but the water is manageable. Usually guys with small boats are OK there.

You sure put in a good effort for fishing around 7 hours. Better luck next time. Bring on the Pinks!!!! - John
