Launched in Everett this morning and ran out to p-n-p in area 9. Had my son and two of my buddies along. Cloudy and cool all morning, thought the fishing should be good.
Fished two deep off the downriggers, A flasher and whole herring in a hood at 110' and a flasher with a coho killer at 90'. Water was between 115' and 145'. Also had two rods out with humpie specials on divers set about 40'. after three dog fish and a flounder i decided to ditch the herring and go with another coho killer. As I was lowering this rig down it popped off the clip at about 60 feet and I had on my first salmon. It came to the surface and thrashed around and out popped the hook! It looked like around a 6 lb silver, but was too far away for positive id. After that we caught a small ling cod and two small true cod (released) on the coho killers. Never got a hit on the humpie specials. All in all it was a good day on the water, saw three groups of porpoises, a couple bald eagles and lots of sea birds. I always like p-n-p just for that reason, I see more sea life there than anywhere else in the sound.
On the way back we picked up our crab pots from humpie hollow, minus one, thanks for not taking all of them you thieving swine! Got 10 keepers from the remaining three.
Back at the dock I saw Tom Nelson, host of outdoor line on Sat. mornings. His group got three or four kings from mid channel on coho killers and break away flashers. Sorry I don't know what colors they were using.I think I'll try that area this weekend. Good fishing to you all except the pot thieves.
