Went out this morning with a friend to do a little test fishing for the Bayside Marine Blackmouth Derby that is scheduled for next weekend. Started at Elger Bay and had our first keeper, about an eight pound hatchery Blackmouth that took a green splatterback glow in the dark hoochie behind a purple haze flasher. Fished Elger for two more hours and caught five shakers and lost one nice fish we did not see. Moved to the Baby Island area and caught one more smaller keeper that bit on a green and white glow coyote spoon and released two more shakers, one that was just short. Ended the day on the racetrack between Camano and Hat Islands where we hooked four more undersized Blackmouth. We saw lots of bait in Elger Bay and less at the other two spots. Good luck this weekend if you are fishing the derby!

Hey Tom,

Great to read your report and thanks for the detailed information. I am very close to Elger Bay, Baby Island, Greenbank, and Onamac and was curious to know if there were any black mouth in the area. On my way back from the south tip of Camano last Monday I hit a small piece of wood right at Elger Bay which bent my prop so we limped back to the Camano Island launch and called it a day early. We were heading to Onamac to give that a try when I bent the prop. I have heard that lots of Kings hold there so I was very interested in giving that a try before calling it. But instead we limped back to the launch and that was it. So, I look forward to trying Elger and surrounding areas here soon. Thanks again for the info.
