launched out of redondo about 10:30 or so. Motored down the coast just about 3/4 mile or so and dropped 2 pots about 75 feet apart in about 100' depth. Was using some embarrasingly caught flounder from the weekend before when we attempted to fish for salmon off point robinson. Glad I kept them. After about a 4 hour soak the first pot had 13 crabs, 7 keepers, everything else too small or female. The second pot had 12, but only 2 keepers. Dropped the pots back in for another 2 hrs. Managed a total of 16 keepers, of which we selected the 10 largest, and 1 red, which was one of the largest I've ever seen.
We tried a bit of trolling for salmon while waiting for the crabs to climb into the pot, but didn't have much luck. Did manage a couple of dogfish (another embarrassment I suppose...) The fishfinder crapped out about a month ago, and educated guesses of the depth and fish locations just aren't cutting it. Time to install the new hummingbird and get back to catching nice big tasteys....
Guess next weekend I will be making the trip over to robinson first thing in the morning to catch a few more bait fish then setting the pots in the same general area. Then to see if I can catch something that doesn't lurk on the bottom waiting......
And I think I just discovered that popeye was a crabbin man. Hand pulling pots will give me popeye arms by the end of summer.....
