Had boat trouble in the morning, so we got that fixed and finally got on the water around 1:30pm. Ran out to Possession and began trolling deep (around 200' of cable out) in 200-350' of water. Trolled green flashers with brads cut plugs, green ace hi's, and green spoons.
Trolled till around 3 with no action, then wham! Fish on! Line started screeming off the rod with the green spoon. Had three or four good runs, when the fish finally got to the top it was easily a 24lb King! The excitment of the moment added up to a miss with the net, and watching the big guy dissapear back into the depths, and us standing around dumbfounded. (Though were pretty sure we saw an extra fin on him, so our hearts weren't too broken, it was a GREAT FIGHT!
Hurried and got the rig back in the water, and not 15 minutes later the rod popped off the clip again. This time just a little wild blackmouth, that was safely realeased after snapping a picture to prove we landed a fish that day.
Trolled for the rest of the night with one dog fish caught and nothing else. Jigged for a bit around some birds before calling it a night with still nothing.
So at the end of the day, didn't have anything for the bbq, but it was a pretty good day with some fish caught. Just seemed to be one of those days things didn't go right.
