OK, this is a 2nd hand report since I didn't fish. The Mrs and I took our daughter down to the park to slide and swing.I snuck out to the pier and nobody out there had any salmon of any kind. Maybe 8 people salmon fishing.
I talked to a guy chucking a 2 1/2 inch dart for coho. He had been at it for just a little (1 hour or so?) and had nothing/saw nothing. Still pretty early in season tho for coho. I saw none jump or anything and water was relatively calm. He mentioned a couple people have caught a few but mostly sparse considering how many people and amount of hours throwin' hardware and herring.
One thing I did stumble upon that is worth this post for this pier is this:

Last year I lost count of how many pinks were taken by seals and/or sea lions. I only lost 2 but lost gear too both times. I might contemplate a sling shot for when those buggers are cozy enough to be spending the whole morning going back and forth under the pier... Not gonna aim for the head but even with that blubber layer, I bet a marble would still be enough to give 'em a zing in the body. I never have seen anyone deploy these deterrent strategies on a pier yet so not sure if it is legal?

Not sure if state laws might override this or if we have any in place with this specific issue? Tight lines all.
