Went to the pier with my pole today for really the first time this year. Didn't expect anything to happen except get blown off the dock and whine about the cold and the wind. But it was going to be 100% better than arguing with somebody at Martha Lake again about whatever we argued about the other day (fishing related).
I was told by one person that nothing had been caught. Nothing on live bait, dead bait, jiggs... zippo. Fine I thought, tides out and I'm only going to play for a little bit anyways.
Second cast of the day the rod bends, I'm fearing I'm caught the marina rocks but the rod twitches. I pull harder and the little twitch turns into a head shake. Head shake turns into the whole body trying to go to the rocks.
Guy next to me asks if I need a net. And I said "likely..." I finally see the fish and his net is barely big enough for the fish. Was really hoping for Ling Cod but it was a good sized Cabezon. I'm not disappointed and I've since named it dinner.
Photo may follow if I can get the picture off my cell phone.
