So after fishing the Wynoochee on Saturday, I spent a lazy afternoon at the dock at my dads house at Steamboat Island.
I caught lots of crab, which was my primary goal, and also had a dog shark derby with my dad, which I won, with one pushing five feet. They had their gold spots on, which are always cool looking.
I got a limit of rock crab, the largest was 12" and none were smaller than 9", with ginourmous claws. I know people don't like them as much as dungies, of which I only got one, because they're harder to crack with less meat, but at 12" the claw has the same amount of meat as the body of a 6" dungy. Giant monsters, and they taste delicious.
The highlight of the day was when I was casting a spinner for little perch and with my polarized glasses I spotted, yep, you guessed it, a school of about ten pinks swim by and one took a swipe at it. Didn't hook it, but I didn't expect the pinks to be that far south this time of year. But they are. I'm excited to start catching some chrome salt pinks for the smoker!
caught about 20 big doggies, lots of fun on light tackle, still used a steel leader though, on account of their teeth. Lots of fun and a beautiful day.
