So my dad and I went out this past weekend (7/22-24) to Sekiu for our fishing trip since it was his long weekend and I switched a day of work so we could fish for 3 days up there for kings and pinks if we couldn't find any kings or incidental catches. We started out Friday around 9 AM fishing the caves. We didn't get a bite until when we were about to leave the area and my dad got a big bite. It was ripping line and we knew it was a king. Then all of a sudden it went off, Ouch! My dad brings his rig back in and the back hook was bent straight. Friday, the afternoon bite was the best for us around 3 PM. We probably hooked into about 10 fish in a hour to an hour and a half. I was going for pinks in the area while my dad kept his king rig on. He ended up catching 2 kings, one that was a BIG fish and another that would've been a keeper, but both were wild and released. We ended up catching 5 pinks during that time. No more kings when we went out later that evening for 2 hours or so. Saturday was slow for us the whole day until later that evening. We caught 2 pinks earlier in the afternoon and had nothing in the morning. In about an hour's worth of time in the evening on Saturday we were hooking them left and right, my dad ended up having to release 2 wild kings again that would've been keepers, and we ended up boating 5 more pinks within that timeframe. I finally got a chance to have a king on but of course my line snapped so didn't get to see if it was a hatchery or not. When we went back in the bite was still going on but my dad was tired and wanted to go in. This morning from 5-6 we had 2 bites that I think were pinks and we finally got a king in the boat that was a hatchery fish, that was about 17lbs. We ended up catching 2 more pinks and lost a couple more later on around 10-11. Total of fish we brought home was 12. We were switching baits consistently until we kind of decided on what we were going to use, my dad had the most success on kings with a Silver Horde Purple Haze 6" squid with a herring strip and flasher, while we caught pinks with different colored squids/flasher combos, and caught one of the kings on a herring head clip and flasher. The pictures are of the big chinook we had to release the other day which was much larger than the one we kept, I didn't really get a good photo of how thick the fish was because it kind of moved when I took the pic and the other is of the one we kept this morning.
