I went fishing with Mike Carey and his wife Joann today. We launched out of the Port of Edmonds and ran up to shipwreck area.
We were there before they open at 6am but I don’t know what time we started fishing with Wannafish A Lure DPS Jigs. I was using a Wannafish A Lure DPS 5 which has become my favorite lure. We started in a place north of ship wreck in about 60 feet of water and drifted with the current. We did fish 12 feet to 300 feet of water throughout the day. Didn’t see a lot of surface action but there were fish on the finder. I hooked the first fish that I grabbed the line to bring it in because they had to get the net ready. In all we boated 8 but we could have had our limit, I believe, if we had a smaller net. The extra netting material one needs for large fish gets in the way of these smaller fish trying to hide under the boat. I carry one for the river that would be hard pressed to net a large Chinook but is good for the 10 pound and under fish. I think we would have had a better success rate with it. Joann was learning how to fish and that was nice to be a part of it. I hope she keeps going.
When the tide change happened there was so many waves and the current and the wind picked up and the jigs were not getting down deep enough so Mike tied on two jigs and he caught two fish that way. I tried but was unsuccessful. Joann caught two fish with bobber and jig. We had one double. We stopped fishing around 1:30pm and I am the one who called it a day. I do believe we could have caught more fish after the lull between the tides. I was exhausted and just had to go home. I went to bed at 9pm and stayed there until 7am. OK now I am ready to go again. :-)
The tides were:
High 3:20 AM 9.7
Low 10:02 AM -1.0
High 5:12 PM 10.7
I forgot to say that the fish checker at 2pm said that there were 19 boats with 50 fish. That is 18 boats with 42 fish for an average of 2.333 per boat. So Wannafish A Lure jigs brought our boat to well above average.
Also these jigs brought in flounders and a rock fish, too.
