Went to Hoodsport after Minter Creek. Forgot to mention that I didnt even wet my line the several hours at the creek. With the aid of cell phone gps, I finally made it to Hoodsport at high tide. From Highway 101 as you enter town, you can see several fishing vessels with thier nets out. After driving this far from Seattle, Im still gonna fish regardless. I pulled into the gas station next to the IGA supermarket and spot fisherman. They said the chum fishing was good, but I saw them hop onto commercial fishing boats later

The gas station clerk told me the waterfront was all private besides the public dock when I asked her about chum fishing from a beach. I spent the next couple hours their fishing and never saw a chum. The sad thing was, the Hoodsport Hatchery was less than 1/2 mile from where I was fishing. Bummer!!!!

ouch, Tuesdays and Thursday are generally when the area gets netted. 360-877-5222 for hatchery updates. They must have cleaned it out pretty good yesterday, cause Monday there were a lot of fish there. South of Hoodsport is a smaller hatchery, Potlatch. That can have good fishing too. Bu unfortunately everything up and down gets netted. There are a couple spots north of the town of Hoodsport that have public access to the shoreline.

You should have tried the Skokomish river, on your way back. There's quite a few chum in there right now.

Ive fished hoodsport hatchery a few times in the past few weeks. Talked to many fisherman that said dont bother fishing the area on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The natives net just about every fish those days. But new fish start showing up once they pull the nets out. So usually the next day youll find schools of "fresher" fish returning. Theyre pretty dark anyways, but youll find some bright ones. Its worth going back if you want to fill your smoker.

By the time I left Hoodsport, It was already getting dark. Plus I dont really know how to get to the known fishing holes on the Skok.
