Day 1 of 2 charter fishing with http://excelfishingcharters.com . Quadfather and I fished with 2 other friends. On day 1 we targeted chinook and coho salmon. After pulling away from the dock at 05:00, we all had our 2 fish limits by 09:30. The kings ranged from maybe 10 to 15 pounds. The silvers went about 8 to 10 pounds. We lost one to a sea lion, and another was a close call, but was brought to the boat quicker than the sea lion could get to it. The sea lion just hung out behind the boat waiting for easy meals. The weather was good, the water was calm, and the fishing action was pretty steady.

Was expecting some great adventure on the high seas......with the portaboat!! This will have to do...LOL!! What was the main gear of choice for each species?

I did not recognize Mr. Quad,, due to sporting the "hippy" hair.....LOL! Good trip, with calm seas? Any bottom fish, assuming that was open?

The portabote would have been more sporting. :) And yes, that is Quad with the shaggy doo. I will let Quad answer about what lures were used, since he seemed to recognize them. The bottom fishing was done on day 2, as described in my other report.

Motoboat... the salmon gear consisted of simple same stuff you use here in the Sound. A Purple haze dodger with a hootchie trailing behind. Sometimes it was a blueish/purpleish hootchie. (color blind here) Other times it was the standard Green Splatter back hootchie.
The other rods had a Luhr Jensen chrome/hammered spoon. forget the exact name. Larger spoon than you see in local OE, etc. store.
Ya, I can't recommend doing a bottom fishing charter enough if anyone hasn't. Go with a guide that you have a recommendation from friends, on. Some have a better disposition than others. This guy would truely get WORKED UP/EXCITED when the big lings came along the boat.
