Decided to see if yesterday, and the day before was a fluke. Started at Shilshole ramp earlier than previous days. Called my dad the night before, to see if he was interested in helping with the filling of some available space in the cooler. He was not. It takes several positive trip reports before he get's excited enough to get up early.

On the water by 7: 40. Gear, same as day before. 15 minutes into the troll. Pole get's hammered. Fish pretty much came to the boat and into the net. Rolled up pretty tightly in the net and snapped the back hook off. That was the end of the wife's set up, until a new leader was tied up. Fish weighted 6lb-3oz. Grabbed my rod, with same set up as day before. Gear down, 10 minutes later "Pole is definitely doing something funny" as the line convincingly pops from the clip. I split the upright's. With one boat on my starboard, and a guide boat on my port. Several eyes watching as this 5lb-5oz fish is fought to net. It is now 8:05 and it has been 25 minutes since deploying the line for the first time. This day is done!.

Fresh fish for dinner tonight. Started off smoking the filet in the smoker, for 1 hour. Before finishing on the grill. Basted with a Asian sweet hot sauce. Had a side salad, made from head lettuce grown in the wife's backyard veggy garden, was delish!

There is always tomorrow. Wife has the day off. Who knows what days events might transpire!

schu, happened so fast I was planning the rest of the day, while motoring back to the Shilshole ramp. Had to throw the cooler lid open and verify there was indeed a 2 fish head count.

Knot, was a last minute decision to smokem first. I would do it again! I have pulled fish from the brine, that were to be smoked and grilled them instead of smoking. Those are a purdy durn tasty meal too!

Moto- I'm with you on the light smoke then finish them cooked. I personally like cooking them directly on open alderwood flame if the fish is real fresh. Smoker for short stay is a bit more work but I'm sure very rewarding. Nice touch with the home-raised lettuce! If it were leaf lettuce I would be tryng to duplicate it in my yard except haven't gone out yet for the salmo fishes. Keep up the hookup! :-)

Knot, thank for the cooking affirmation. I heard yours truely cooks up a mean batch of dumplings? If my memory is correct. Might be another cuisine I am thinking of.
