Took the family on a vaca to westport this weekend and was able to get some fishing in on closing weekend for chinook retention. Got out around 3pm to hit the evening high tide. Running five poles all with big herring and pyramid flashers. Couple echips, kone zones and one other. Fishing from 20 to 30 feet deep trying to run the bottom. Around 6pm hit our one and only king and the fight was on! What a great battle lasting about twenty minutes. Slammed the black label herring. Behind a purple echip rotator. Took off and instantly snagged all four other lines!! 3 6oz weights, one 4 and 4 more flashers on top of the fish! Instantly grabbed a knife and cut all four other lines and amazingly they all stay attached in a big huge wad at the swivel 6 feet ahead of the fish. Luckily the 6/0 owner hook was lodged deep in his big jaw and we luckily netted her n got her aboard. Phew! What an awesome rush. Other than a fairly large dogfish, that's all we landed. Fished a few hrs Sunday afternoon as well and nothing. Seen one other caught each day. Both silvers. Heard reports of fair fishing but nets were in Sunday by two so we scooted out. Can't wait till next year to try it out again.
