Hit the first day of halibut season in the strait, launched from Ediz Hook, near Port A at 6am. Spent all morning hooking dog fish in multiple locations - 6 total for the day. Does that mean my jigging is working or not??
Finally hooked a 13 lb halibut and boated him at about 9:30 in 160 ft of water I think, using herring on a double hook, and a 3 pd weight. Caught one more dog fish and then called it a day at 3:30 probably.
Thursday my buddy Reggie caught a 23 lber and a baby mystery fish, lingcod or Cabezon, too small to keep. We had found a new spot near a ridge, was there for 10 minutes in amongst other boats, and started to drift toward a boat that was anchored up. Reg trolled us out of there at 5 mph, and after 5 seconds of moving, he hit his fish, the damndest thing. Total fluke!
All fish were caught with the line jigging from the rocking of the boat, or moving in general. Keep the bait moving.
