Went out a little late this morning to catch the 11:45 tide change at Redondo. There was a slight breeze this morning, and the water was dirty. There was seaweed completely covering the launch, which made for a slick ramp. Had one on at about 11:00. It made one little run and I thought I had him, But my rustiness got the best of me and I lost it. Ended up with one shaker to the boat. All in all, It was more than I expected. My brother in law has been bugging me to go, but I told him I won't go until mid July at the earliest. I finally gave in, and I'm glad I did. It was a pretty nice morning to be floating on the sound. But then it was time to leave. That Redondo has to be the worst place on the sound to launch. I waited for almost 45 minutes to get the boat on the trailer. One guy launched his boat, and his truck ran out of gas on the ramp. He walked down the street looking for a gas can clogging up the left launch lane. And in the other lane, the guy launched his boat and went to park his rig, and his wife is just standing there holding the boat right at the water's edge. So, my brother in law can't back the trailer in or he will hit the boat, and there is 40 feet of dock behind her, but she won't walk the boat down to the end of the dock. So I'm floating out in the middle waiting for someone to do something so I can load my boat and go, when another boat zips in and ties up right behind the lady that's in my way!
I finally get out of the water and pull up to the parking lot to clean up, and there is seaweed all over my trailer. But The City of Des Moines, who maintains the launch, took the hoses away. Now I really don't have any way to clean off the trailer, and there is seaweed all over the parking lot from everyone else and myself. Now I have seaweed all over my driveway. I sure miss the sling in Des Moines. Redondo was horrible and there were only 4 people there. Can't wait to see it in August.
