Launched the yak for opening day of crabbing season and it did not disappoint!!! I used chicken parts bought from Safeway because I couldn't make it to my usual place for salmon heads, backs, etc. I have always preferred salmon for bait instead of chicken but after yesterday I might have to throw that right out the window. So I loaded the pot and threw it down right off of Simpson and the Foss Waterway at 6:00AM with 100 feet of rope. I went to work and when that was over, changed and put the yak in again to check the pot. When I got there and started pulling it up, two things crossed my mind: 1) Someone stole my crab and stuffed rocks in the pot. or 2) There are a ton of %#$@% crabs in this pot...Well it was number 2!!! This was the first time I could not lift my crab pot onto the bow of my yak it was so heavy and full of crab. I threw 8 keeper male crabs back, 4 females, and 1 red rock crab. I got my limit of Dungeness and I kept one red rock for the heck of it. Went home and had cracked crab for dinner. My son Quincy loved it!!!
