I got to fish today with Gringo Pescador and Aaron who is visiting from Spokane to see our amazing pink salmon fishery. I would like to say I got him on limits of saltwater chrome brite pinks but alas, it was a tough day on the water.

We fished from 6:30am until 2pm. Started at Shipwreck. Saw a fair amount of jumpers so we ran two rods on downriggers and cast off to the side of the boat with a pink jig. Wouldn’t you know, Gringo came through (as I have seen many times in the past) first. He got a nice bright 4.5 lb. fish. Nice start! Sad to say, that was the high point for the morning. We trolled the area going with the tide (HT 7:45am, LT 1:45pm). We ran over to Possession and checked it, nada. Marked fish all morning, they just were not in a biting mood. Around 10:30 we saw three fish caught around us, but that was that. Aaron counted 227 boats (shows you how slow it was to have the exact number, LOL).

At 1pm trolling south, south of the Shipwreck, Aaron got a 4.5 lb fish at 35 ft on the rigger. Standard pink gear, white flasher, pink hoochie, herring strip.

That was it for the day. Pulled the crab pots and Gringo got a couple nice crabs.

So, from what we could see, it was a tough day on the water for most anglers. I saw no significant bite. Hopefully things will pick up on Mon/Tues when I will again give it a try.

BTW, saw a couple netters lay out nets just south of Mukilteo. But I don’t think that was the cause of the poor fishing. It was slow all over.

We also marked quite a few schools early in the morning, but really did not have what we expected, barometric pressure?

More than years past, the pinks are going on, and off the bite. The time of day, and tide don't appear to control when the bite happens, 70 ft. seems to be the depth during the day.

Looks like you are going to have to go out and try again! Thanks for the report!
