This would be my 9th trip out in the salt this year. Two of those trips were during the height of the Pinky run in August, fishing while the crab pots soaked. So, those two were more of a crabbing than fishing trip.

The remaining 7 trips began in September, focusing on Coho. On this trip, got up late with lots of boat prep to do before leaving the driveway. Boat blanketed in a doubled up tarp that needed folding once the 12 bungee's were sprung loose. A 100 + ft trot across the yard, through a couple of fence gates, needle my way through a dog run, then hoist the 80lb kicker onto the rear of the lund. Out of breath, and throbbing muscles. The list of needed gear dwindles to "0" with 5 more round trips from back yard to boat.

Backing down the ramp at 8:30. Fishing by 8:45. First fish to the boat @8:50. Take some quick notes. Boat direction..West, depth of water.....130ft, gear depth 62ft, fog thickness.......not bad, take a compass heading just the same. Continue to work cross current from east to west. Make a loop back to where the fish was caught.....nuttin further. Continue in a SW heading until reaching 300 ft of water. Then due south with the incoming tide headed for West point.

That fish had managed to break off the back hook while in the net. While retying the 40lb leader. A green glow hoochie, with glow skirt was attached to the green hot spot flasher. Have had zero action this season on green. Since that is my number one color, had to try it since it had been 3 trips since giving green a go.

An hour later, green had let me down, no action what so ever this year. White non glow hoochie, freshly retied on a 32" leader is sent to 80ft with high hopes. After many speed, and depth changes, as well as boat heading adjustment. White hoochie leader is now shortened. At 11:30, white hoochie hooks up on a 7lb er, with ever so slightly hooked nose. Kept this fish.

Since the first 5 minute fish came so quickly, and was 4.5lb it was released. Supposed to be a nice day, with light winds forecast. So, in no hurry to limit, if a limit of high ho silvers is achieved today. At this point in the season, I am tired of fileting, smoking, vacuum packing fish. A nifty problem to have, I figure!

So, one fish in the boat. Nothing more and it is 12:00. Fish being caught all around. Switch to a mini squid, alternate between herring and craw scent. 12:45 fish to within 20ft of the boat, uncorked. 1:00 hot fish hits at 70ft down in 120 ft of water. Drag is pulled 3 or 4 times. Line goes out at will. Fish is super heavy, hard to gain line, stays deep. Digital scale reveals a very strong 9lb fish! Faught like a much heavier fish.

In 2006 I was fortunate enough to catch a honest 15lb Coho, as weighed by the fish checker. This felt like that caliber of fish.

Such a nice day. Put pink gear on, and trolled back to the ramp. 4 fish hooked, 3 to the boat, 2 in the boat. The one fish that was lost looked to be in the 7lb range. Including today, 13 Coho for 7 trips.

Fish checker said 40 boats with 95 Coho........wow! Trailer parking was still 2/3 full.
