Fished Wednesday and Thursday, left from lake washington both mornings at 530AM, and headed up to Edmonds. I have many years of experiance in the straight, but am just starting to fish the sound, these two days were my second and third attemps.
Wed was slow, wind was up but managed to get my girlfriend into her fisrt salmon of her life around 8AM, a 7 lb silver on a black and white squid behind a green flasher. 60 ft down in about 200ft of water. nothing on my chho killer, we called it day around 2.
Thur, I ran the same squid on one rigger, and on the other I had a small glow green and black splatter coyote spoon, i cut the hook off and replaced with a split ring, swivel, and new hook, and put a mini hoochie over the swivel to cover the hook. this has wored very well with my coho killers out at sekiu. I really like how the swivel lets the fish roll without putting pressure on the hook, i have not lost a fish sense I started doing this last year. started at 40ft in the morning and slowly dropped them to 115ft by 11AM ended up with 3 on the spoon and one more on the squid. We had a great time and had a blast teaching my better half how to run the boat and set gear.
