Launched out of Everett shortly after 11. Goal not hit anything in the fog and start fishing just after the ferry dock. I realize at this point we are in area 8-2 but that is where the adventure will start.

It was foggy but you could easily see landmarks so no need for a GPS except for the one time I got turned around but otherwise all was good.

I started off using a Red Racer Coho Killer with a Red Racer Flasher and dropped the downrigger to 85 feet. Overcast/Foggy couldn't see much of a reason to go deeper. Well that changed quickly. Caught 3 Chinook/Blackmouth a few weeks early and decided to go to my standard 125 Feet, all fish released as required. I decided to give the next round 15 minutes and then a change of some sort was going to happen. Line pops off the clip just short of Ship Wreck but comes unbuttoned. My friend is using the exact same type of coho killer and I already have 3 well 1 legitimate take down and 2 shakers and the darn-it your a few weeks early hatchery blackmouth.

So more smelly jelly and back to 125 I go. My friend decides to take the boat towards Possession Point and I'm starting the next 10 minute timer. Well take down number 5 happens and it's game on. I will admit I nursed this fish to the net and wasn't going to rush it like I had so many others earlier in the season. End result was Coho number 18 on my card (best season ever for me) without touching a river (not that river fishing ever works for me). After this I switch to a green splatterback hootchie with 2 skirts and a chunk of herring strip. No camera flash so I use the brightest flashlight I have instead. Well to speed this part of the story up all I caught was seaweed from that point on.

On the return trip we saw a Ca. Sea-lion tossing a fish about like a play thing and eating it. My friend who only caught shakers wasn't amused.

What I don't get is the fact I can't catch anything on Hoochies and Herring strips on this boat but can on my other friends. But then again I don't catch them on coho killers on the other friends boat.

Silvers are done. Fishchecker report for Everett on Sunday showed 13 Silvers for 136 guys. Great season! But all good things must come to an end. I only have 8 punches left on my second card! I didn't fish for Blackmouth last winter, maybe I will this year. I used to fish Possession and Saratoga Passage a lot for Blackmouth but it kind of petered out the last few years.

I know that Silvers on the sound are basically done but my friend wanted to go out yet again today. I told him I had gone to Edmonds and had a hard time spotting either Whidbey or the peninsula. It was windy, cold, kinda choppy, and to be honest I didn't wanna.

He didn't want to go that far up the Snohomish so I have a feeling our season is basically baked until next year or if we hear blackmouth in bulk just bring a heater baby. I usually don't do rivers or have any success on them (I'm clueless on the rivers and will admit it). And only being able to go out 2 to 3 times a week for the past two months I'm happy with what I got this year.

I am new to catching silvers, but got four fish from shore on west side of Whidbey last week. I did get a skunk this Monday, but Thurs thru Sat 10/26 of last week was a lot of fun for me. I will head back to Whidbey again to try for more soon! Hope they keep coming like this, even if it is a little slower. .
