I went out on a charter Saturday morning. We launched out of Edmonds with 6 guys and the captain. At 7am, the water was calm, and the weather not too cold. At about 7:30 the little rollers coming through made me the sickest I've ever been out on a boat. I was throwing up from there on for 4 hours. In between the "chum spills" we managed to catch at least 7 blackmouth shakers. That's the most fish I've been part of catching. The last fish of the day looked like it was a nice sized keeper when we caught a glimpse of it from the seal throwing it around. Unfortunately it threw the fish from the hook and then hooked itself. We had to chase it to get as much line back and try to recover the gear. The seal didn't relent, and the line snapped. So now there is a seal out there with a flasherboard earring! I gave Saturday a 3 because we caught a lot of fish, which was cool, but throwing up was not so cool.
Also, we ran four poles on downriggers. The 2 outside poles were rigged with spoons off the leader and the two inner were rigged with herring. The fish we caught didn't even touch the herring. Spoons all the way.

I can sympathize...I used to get deathly seasick...finally got over it when I did a stint on patrol boats in the Bering Sea. Glad you got into some action and "thumbs up" for the positive attitude!

Did that in area 10 out of Shilshole the past few weeks minus the chumming the water and getting sea sick. Water was a bit choppier Sunday than it was Saturday - which looked almost mirror like to me the few times I peeked. Sunday we had the 1 foot or worse stuff and then the wind got going. Anyways 3 fish on 2 trips, each fish had a Sea lion attached to it. All fish were lost and the seals were fed. No gear was misplaced... but dangit. Never had been bothered by Seals or Sea lions in the past either.

That's enough of the stupid replies.

Nice report. I would advise to take some natural medication to prevent that feeling :) and improve fishing experience

Glad you had a good time despite the seasickness. Been there, done that. Not fun. Spent four hours off the coast of Oregon with my head hung over the side of the boat. One of the most miserable experiences of my life. Fortunately I seem to be able to manage Puget Sound waters.
