Launched out of Twanoh early morning of the opening day. Let the pots soak all day while I was at work and pulled them about 6 pm. We came away with only 3 keepers. Re-set the pots for a night soak and returned in the morning. Only came up with one keeper. We then reset those pots with and additional two pots for the rest of the day while we buzzed up to Hoodsport for the day. Ended up pulling the pots a few times and moving them around from union mud flats to just north of Alderbrook but couldn't come up with anything more than a few small ones and a lot of females. Reset the pots for a night soak and returned on Saturday morning to find nothing but a few females and starfish in our pots. Heard from fish and game that they had checked 50 boats on Friday and only one boat had anything to bring home. Its was a nice day on the water but for an opening weekend of crabbing on the Hood Canal it was very disappointing. We baited with salmon and chicken but even that wasn't enough. Sounds to me the commercial fisherman have pretty much wiped out the keeper population of dungies in the canal. Looks like I'm headed out to find some new areas.
