We decided to try the afternoon soft tides on Tuesday. Launched at Kingston and went up to the south side of Pt no Pt and then up to Skunk bay. Got on the water about noon and fished till 3:30 or so. One small shake, one flounder and one rock fish - all trolling spoons. We found lots of bait and several times I saw some good fish arches under the bait, but we couldnt get them interested. We tried various spoons, needle fish and hoochies with no luck.
Based on some other reports I had seen recently we fished a little deeper than normal - 120-180 ft. I saw several boats trolling even deeper than we were, but we saw no nets out while we were there.
The fish checker at the dock said he had 4 kings reported by the time we got there for 12 boats. There was no change when we got back, so the morning bite was the ticket.
As we were leaving the sheriff stopped by to chat with us. Wanted to know how we did. He said he had been hearing that the fish were holding deeper than normal. Said he was going to get back out this weekend.
