Second coho trip of the year for me. Caught the 6:00 AM ferry out of Mukilteo and headed for Possession Point. Plan was to fish Possession, then move up-island if I had no luck. Arrived at the bait co. by 6:45, line in the water by 7:00. Temp at outset was 62 degrees, not a cloud in the sky. High tide at 7:40, so I caught the last hour of the in-coming. Five others on the beach, one coho on the sand when I started. Fishing herring under a float. About 7:30 had my first hit, left a skinned herring. Caught a good sized red rock crab, then four big Stag-horn sculpins. At 8:00, float went down, set the hook and "fish on"... several acrobatic jumps, long runs... finally beached a 4# 4oz hatchery hen. Several more fish landed about the same time, then a lull in the action. At about 9:30 had my second fish on, bigger fish, lots of aerial display... big runs, then popped off the hook (barbless!!). Ten minutes later, had another on briefly... then at 10:00, had a good hit, bait gone... re-baited, tossed the float out, close to shoreline and immediately was into a fish... more aerial displays... couple of runs and I beached my second, a hatchery buck of 5# 2oz. Must have been a pod of fish that came through, because I counted 9 hook-ups and 7 fish landed in the space of ten minutes. My fishing was done by 10:00, so got home early to my wife's surprise. Saw a total of 17 fish caught off the beach from 7:00 to 10:00. Fishing is good! PTL!
