Beautiful day! Spent the day in 8-2. Fished racetrack and Elger bay. Caught one undersize Blackmouth. about 16 inches. Noticed a few small baitballs in racetrack area and some seals up in Elger Bay. Guess thats good. Tried everything I could think of.

New at this Blackmouth fishery. Kind of tough fishing. Trying to stay in 80-120 feet of water. Bouncing downrigger off the bottom. Trying different stuff, flasher with lures, flasher with squid, Tomic plugs. Scorecard for 4 trips out, 2 undersize Blackmouth and 2 rockfish. Anybody got any suggestions? Going out again tomorrow. Gonna catch one of those elusive devils!!!

not an expert by any means, but perhaps try chasing marks, suspended fish? Vary your depth, don't always bounce the bottom.

I was at the racetrack yesterday too. We also only caught 1 shaker blackmouth and 2 flounders trolling 90-100 fow within 10-15 ft from bottom. I was marking suspended fish throughout the day around 50ft deep... I think next time Ill try running 1 downrigger deep and chase marks with the other one.. I think the early outgoing tide isnt helping either.

Thanks for the tips. One of the biggest challenges I have is that I have a Lowrance Elite 5 DSI Fishfinder(?) Great maps charts etc. But I cannot get it to mark fish. Seem to be able to see baitfish fine but anything bigger just isnt there. Blank screen. No arches, no dots no nothin! Have pounded the internet looking for a solution but so far coming up empty. Anybody know about this model?

Racetrack? I know the area but not the nicknames. Can you describe it for us that don't know it?

Racetrack is a bar that runs from north Hat Island to Camano Head. On top of the bar it is 90 foot but falls off on each side to 300-400. Fish around the 90 foot top or a little on each side. Elger Bay is a Bay around the corner and north of Camano Head about 4-5 miles. Troll kind of an "L" pattern east in the bay and then back and to the north past Camano Park and launch. I used to slay 'em at both places but kinda slow these days. Just don't seem to hang out in 8-2 like they used to. I keep an eye on the on line fishchecker reports for Everett and Camano Park launch but not much action this winter.

wow, I was fishing on the race track and never knew it . LOL. Both places hold lots of great Kids fishing spots for founder. When ever the grand babies ( now kids) come I take them there for it.
