I was out at Ocean Snores with my in-laws for a couple of days and with the clamming closed this last weekend we decided to try our hand at fishing the jetty for some black rockfish. It was wretched weather to say the least but we were determined to at least give it a try. Luckily I had all of my gear tied up and ready so I didn't have to monkey around hiding behind the rocks getting ready. I had my GoPro with me just for the heck of it as well...WHAT A JOKE MAN! I went down a few rocks, cast out, and no sooner than I do than a roller comes rolling in and about knocks me off the rock, completely soaking me. My left ear was totally plugged for the next hour with salt water. I was wearing neoprene diving booties so my traction was great however the wind and spray was over the top...So over the top that we just looked at each other and started laughing, using every curse word known to mankind. My father-in-law gets rigged up and right when he casts, a gust of wind catches his jig in mid air, totally stalling it and sending it down into the rocks about three feet in...I laughed so hard I had tears coming out of my eyes...He then proceeded to get snagged and lost all his gear down in the rocks! That was the extent of fishing the Ocean Shores jetty for us. We did watch a captain bring his boat in with a group of people on board and the swells were so deep that the damn thing disappeared. I pity the the poor guy that has to clean the inside of that boat because I bet everyone got sick and did the technicolor yawn. Good time though and something I will not soon forget. Tight lines.
