No jobs at the union hall, so I decided to give Pine Lake a try. Arrived around Noon. Good thing I did! Started hooking up immediately once on the water. First couple were on a bead-head hare's ear nymph. Later switched to a thin-mint leech. This became the pattern of the day. Worked my way towards the west-end of the lake and kept hooking up. On the south side of the west finger of the lake, I hooked up on a strong fighting 16" 'bow. Had to C&R, since I forgot my stringer. Continued fishing to the west end. Gave a 12" 'bow to an elderly couple who were trying to rustle up fish for a dinner party. They were doing quite well. She out did him with a Royal Coachman streamer. Good on her! Wasted an hour trying a chironomid. Gave up and returned to the thin-mint. Decided to head back around around 5:00, hooking up fish as I trudged along in my float tube. Killed time in the middle section, still occasionally hooking up. Trolling perpendicular to the sun brought the most strikes. Finally bailed after scoring another 16". I was able to keep it by using my net to hold it. All and all an awesome afternoon of fishing. If no work at the union hall and I don't ship out, I think I'll tie up some more thin-mints. The one I used got a little torn up.
